The Dragon Ball Z live-action movie is being produced by 20th Century Fox and is based on the Dragon Ball franchise by Akira Toriyama. It will have an estimated budget of 100 million US dollars or more. Filming is being done in Montreal, Canada and is expected to be wrapping up around July of 2008.[3]

20th Century Fox had bought the film rights to a live-action Dragon Ball Z back in March 2002, where Fox Film Entertainment chairman Jim Glanopulos personally traveled to Japan to meet with DBZ creator Akira Toriyama and the publisher Shueisha to reach a deal.[4] However, despite a brief attachment of Roland Emmerich as the director and Ben Ramsey taking over Tedi Sarafian's position as screenwriter, the film remained in development hell for more than five years.[5]

However, a recent article in the Montreal Gazette announced that 20th Century Fox will be filming three major films in the city: the Night at the Museum sequel, Roland Emmerich's upcoming remake of Fantastic Voyage, and the live-action adaptation of Dragon Ball Z. Although no information about a writer or director has been announced, the film is due to wrap up next July, probably to avoid the impending industry strike that will be in effect at the time.

On September 4th, 2007, IGN reported that 20th Century Fox was unable to confirm the production of the movie as neither start dates nor shooting locations had been locked in.[6]
