- To some of our guests, we have been the owners of the Riverside for only a short time. Many of our guests are second and third generation visitors and our arrival in Spring of 2001 isn't so long ago. Those visitors see that we have taken the time to treat "their" rooms with care and enjoy telling us about the early days. Of course we ask "then why would you stay here" then? The answer is always about the town and the river below their rooms. And the rooms are "theirs"/yours. That's how we approach decorating them. Will "John and Mary like the new quilts" or "the Smiths should enjoy the larger refrigerator we put in the kitchen. That's also why we go to Caroline's for fresh roasted coffee beans or Double Oak Vineyards for our Cabernet Sauvignon and Nevada City Winery for Gewurztraminer that we share on "off season" Saturday afternoons. Many times, we spend time on the phone or internet explaining to folks just why they should travel three or more hours to visit Downieville. Call me, I know this one!
