The "Flatwoods concept" is the product of many years of hunting in varying types of situations. For example, inadequate color combinations in current camouflage became a problem while turkey hunting. In order to create the best hunt possible, DK Flatwoods set out to create camouflage apparel that would assist hunters by providing the true colors and patterns of flatwoods.
There are two facts that lead DK Flatwoods to the "Flatwoods concept." The first is that most game visually detect a hunter, or their equipment, while they are moving at ground level--not perched in a tree. The second is that the plant life at ground level is not dead, (like most camouflage portrays with its dull brown and grays) it consists of vibrant greens, browns, yellows and most importantly, black shadowing.
