The year was 1999. Me and a friend had been kicking around the idea of running an 'underground' radio station tied in with some gaming news for a while. Getting a license to broadcast over the air was ridiculously expensive.
For those of you that don't know, back in the day, Live365 was a service that gave you a (free) 365 listener station - in return, they inserted ads at regular intervals into the stream. It was better than nothing, so that was how it started.
At that point I had about 12 hours of music and it looped continuously while I manually arranged it by hand every day. This was a big pain in the ass. I managed the playlist this way for about 3 years. I now have custom built playlist management software (thanks kender!). When the playlist grew to be weeks long, you can probably imagine how much of a pain in the ass this was.
