The DeSoto Times-Tribune is the only locally-owned, community newspaper in DeSoto County. Headquartered in Hernando, the newspaper's origins go back to June 14, 1839, when Felix LaBauve started the Hernando Free Press, the first newspaper in DeSoto County and forerunner to the Times-Tribune. LaBauve, a founding father of Hernando and DeSoto County, was also a founding father of journalism. He established the States Right Democrat and the Pheonixin 1841.
