Democrats Abroad is the official Democratic Party organization for some seven million American citizens who live outside the United States. We work to support the aims and principles of the Democratic Party. We are recognized as a "state" committee by the Democratic National Committee and are represented on the DNC by eight members. Democrats Abroad has committees in over 30 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. These country committees are responsible for keeping Americans abroad informed of their rights and helping them to participate in the U.S. political process, even though they are far from home. Together, the country committees comprise the Democratic Party Committee Abroad.

was started in September 2004 by four American women who believed it was time to take back the White House. Focusing on voter registration and write-in balloting primarily in New Delhi, the group grew to include dozens of supporters within weeks. Our get-out-the-vote activities helped hundreds of American citizens to vote in India, and highlighted the inequities faced by overseas voters generally. We sponsored tape-delayed presidential debate viewings attended by 200 partisans; garnered television and print media attention by Indian and international news outlets; placed pro-Kerry opeds in local newspapers; and wrote 1,000 GOTV letters to encourage undecided voters in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
