- Initiated in 2005 by Melissa Starker, assistant editor for weekly publication Columbus Alive and an art house veteran with over a decade's experience, the Alive Deep Focus Film Festival was established to offer a weekend of specialty film premieres to the city's growing audience for movies made outside the Hollywood studio mainstream. By providing a high-profile venue for indie cinema, the festival also aims to generate greater interest and excitement for it within the community at large.
