Dearbirthmother.us was built out of the love of being adoptive parents.
Hello, my name is De. I am the president of Dearbirthmother.us. Dearbirthmother.us was founded in 1998 by Trish Boyle, a web designer and hopeful adoptive parent. As a perspective adopted parent, Trish saw my Dearbirthmother letter on the Internet and contacted me. We immediately became friends. At that time few people were using the Internet to adopt, but we knew that the Internet was a powerful tool for bringing people together. There were a few web sites that specialized in listing Dearbirthmother letters, but none of them truly had what we wanted -- a way for us to "stand-out from the crowd". Dearbirthmother.us grew out of our desire to adopt and later out of our desire to help others make maximum use of the Internet in their adoption journeys.
Trish and I are both adoptive mothers now. We each have a boy and a girl and couldn't be happier. My husband and I found both sets of our children's birthparents using the Internet. Our agency actually called us "Internet Pioneers", my husband and I being their first Internet facilitated adoption. (for more info read our adoption story .) In 2002 Trish moved on to fulltime parenting and I took over the web site as president. Not only has adoption benefit our lives and made our dreams of parenting come true, but it has also benefited the lives of our children's birthparents. We learned a great deal during our adoption journeys. We'd like to share our experience with others.
The Internet is not only a powerful tool for the dissemination of information and sharing of ideas, but it is also a great way of bringing people together. For you, this may mean making friends who have shared experiences (ie: adoptive parents meeting and supporting other adoptive parents like Trish and I did; birthparents meeting & supporting other birthparents), or it may mean birthparents finding the perfect adoptive parents for their baby.
