For those not familiar with our club's background, here is an overview of important events in the history of our dojo:
In May of 1974 the De-Ai Aikikai's chief instructor Colin West sensei began his training with Richard Ostrofsky sensei. As one of Ostrofsky sensei's principle students he was instrumental in the development of the Ottawa Aikikai which was founded by Ostrofsky sensei. He was an instructor in both regular and weapons classes. As a senior member of the Ottawa Aikikai he also organized seminars with Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan, and Kazuo Chiba Shihan.
In 1982 Ostrofsky sensei stepped down as chief instructor of the Ottawa Aikikai. West Sensei then assumed that role until the end of 1983.
