All staff are, or have been, actively involved in farming and understand the customers requirements.The company philosophy of providing software that is EASY TO USE whilst providing clear and comprehensive information at an affordable price is one that appeals to many farmers, particularly 'first time buyers'.
Datag Ltd. was started in the mid-1980s by Norman Buxton. A successful dairy farmer himself, he had sustained a back injury which prevented him from farming full-time and so he decided to look at computerising his business. He was appalled at the poor standard of programs available and, after purchasing an accounts package that he found impossible to relate to his farm business, he decided to try designing and writing a program for his own use. The first copy of Farm Accountant was created, which gave Norman the idea of making the program available to all farmers, filling a gap in the market to provide effective management software that was simple to use and reasonably priced.
