Description
The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is an independent supervisory authority reporting directly to the UK parliament. The ICO regulates and enforces the Data Protection Act 1998, the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
The Data Protection Act and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations give you the right to know what information is held about you, and set rules to ensure information about you is handled properly. The Freedom of Information Act and the Environmental Information Regulations give you the right to obtain information held by public bodies unless there are good reasons to keep it confidential.
