Darksoul VII was originally created by Eric "Wrath" von Foerster when he got sick and tired of not finding the information he was looking for about extreme metal online. Frustration and a drive to do something for a genre that is often ignored, he set out to create a resource for bands, fans, promoters, venues, and anyone interested in further exploring extreme metal.

In April of 2002, darksoul7.com was launched. First only covering the Las Vegas metal scene, it quickly branched out to cover the southwestern U.S., later the entire U.S., and finally all of the U.S. and Canada. It was before the first coverage expansion that Eric met Hans Faber of the band Unsanctified. Hans being a true metal fan offered his talents in coding and scripting and saved the site from going under when the workload became too much for Eric alone. They shared the same vision and set out to continually make Darksoul VII a progressive force in the online world of metal websites.

Darksoul VII gained notoriety early on, first because it was the only site of its kind in Las Vegas to showcase metal, and second because it was the first financially successful music site of its kind at that time, and in a genre that isn�t known for making a lot of money. Eric got involved in many metal related projects, but his focus was always on how they could benefit metal itself as well as darksoul7.com. The site became a massive networking tool for the genre, and Eric found himself advising and assisting numerous metalfest organizers, tour managers, booking agents, talent buyers, bands and record labels around the world.
