Title

Cultural Creations - an educators resource for all your multicultural art and educational material needs

Description

My name is Virginia Liudzius Osborne. I am a parent of two children and have been in the early childhood field for 25 + years as a teacher, director and executive director. Through the process of obtaining NAEYC Accreditation in the mid 90's, I was educated about multicultural education and soon developed a passion for it. It opened my mind to the importance of exposing our children to diverse cultures inclusive of the diversity of ethnicity, gender, race, physical ability and socioeconomics. Multicultural Education promotes the importance of sharing, respecting, appreciating and most importantly accepting the many ways one human can be the same and different from one another. I am an advocate for making all people realize that Multicultural Education is for everyone. It is just as important in an all European-American class or an all Latino class as it is in a multiracial class to experience and discover our own cultures, as well as that of others. Growing up in a mono-cultural community and classroom can give students the false impression that everyone is alike. Without multicultural education they may grow up not knowing about other cultures, never developing sensitivity to the life experiences of others. We, as parents/caregivers/educators help shape ideas and attitudes everyday. Our children will develop an appreciation for the richness of diversity when they see it reflected in their school/home/classrooms as an integral part of every day.

Through this passion for culture I have founded The Multicultural Education (M.E.) Museum, an emerging non-profit youth museum in Connecticut. I have developed this web site which is dedicated and devoted to an anti-biased approach to learning and sharing our diverse cultures within our communities, states and country. The M.E. Museum plans to have pages on this site that will serve as a virtual museum.

I welcome and appreciate any ideas, suggestions, links, pages that would be helpful to parents/caregivers/educators who want to bring cultural diversity into their classrooms.
