Tom Culligan, one of Canada's most innovative entrepreneurs, was born in Culligan, now called Belledune, New Brunswick in 1945, and still maintains the original Culligan homestead of 1824 on the Bay de Chaleur in northern New Brunswick, Canada.

They say that behind every great man there's a great woman - and that's certainly true in the case of Tom Culligan.

In the early 70's, Culligan was the first person to look at an ordinary cup of coffee and see a goldmine - the result was a coffee shop that he co-founded with Frank O'Dea called The Second Cup. Over the course of the next 15 years. Tom's little notion grew into a nation-wide chain of 150 stores which stretched from coast to coast (there are 500 stores across Canada today). His phenomenal success set the standard for what turned into a booming industry that swept the continent. Not bad for a boy with the humblest of new Brunswick roots - but of course, there was a great woman in the picture: his mother.
