In 1994, I purchased The Crafty Yankee, a local artisan consignment shop that had been in Lexington, MA since 1980. The previous owners wanted to retire, but having developed a following of local customers, they wanted to find someone who could continue their legacy in the town. I was a new resident of Lexington, but not unaccustomed to running a retail business, having spent several years in senior positions at Dillard’s and Federated Department Stores.
