- I was born in Southampton, Hampshire, UK, in 1932 and left school at 14 to work in the docks, I loved it: Wonderful to see all the great ships and the film stars, boxers and so on. One day the lovely British actress Ann Todd smiled at me through a window of a Pullman car on a train bound for London, my 16 year old heart missed a beat. Below are just some of the ships that used this port at the time. The Cunard Line broke their tradition of their ships having black hulls, by painting the Caronia GREEN
