Who created this site and why?
This site was created by Dan Hersam, a numismatist since 1987. The purpose of the site is to provide information to new collectors, and to provide a forum for discussion so that seasoned collectors can help those that are new and converse with others. I thought it would be helpful to have a site where you could find information about commonly collected US coins. I also find it useful to find information such as the designer, metal content, location of mintmark etc. about the coins I collect. Since I couldn't find this anywhere else, I decided to make the site for others to use.
I don't get paid for this, and the only reason I have advertising on the site is to cover the costs of hosting the site. I just enjoy knowing that I can help people out in the hobby that treated me so kindly when I was beginning.
