As a disc jockey in Sacramento, California, sometimes I can't believe the way things were when I look in my scrap book of pictures, since 1973, and think of all the changes the mobile DJ business has experienced in the last 25 years. I remember teaching 13-year olds how to do the Hustle. Many times I've tried to explain to modern-day DJ's what it was like when the Saturday Night Fever Album

hit the charts; there were no custom equipment cases, no samplers, no CD's, no wireless mics, no laptop computers, and no headings for Disc-Jockeys in the Yellow Pages. From 1970 to 1980, I was an active musician, playing trumpet in local bands. I developed an acute ear for quality sound in both live and recorded music. I experimented with sound system design, recording effects, and sound reinforcement. I also developed an appreciation for recreational dancing. In an effort to tap into all of these interests, I became a disc jockey in Sacramento.

Here is one of my first pictures as a disc jockey (around 1978). From 1980 to 1985, I had 13 DJ's working for Creative Sound Recording (in 2004 the company name was changed to Creative Sound Entertainment). I was networking before I knew what networking was. I've performed over 3,000 functions and have all the contracts to prove it. My most memorable event was performing for the Governor of California, George Deukmajian's private staff party for three years in a row. I even had the song he requested, New York, New York (who wouldn't). Now, my disc jockey skills are sharpened, my equipment is high-tech, and I have a bagfull of tricks that are guaranteed to get every party jumpin'. I like to get everyone on the dance floor. I'm a one man show, Most of the DJ's I have trained and worked with have started their own companies and their own DJ networks.
