- The former Colorado Core Knowledge Regional Center was started in 1999 to help enhance the quality of existing Core Knowledge schools and increase the quantity of Core Knowledge schools in Colorado. The former Regional Center is now run by the National Core Knowledge Coordinator of Colorado, Holly Hensey. Holly has been working with the Core Knowledge schools in Colorado since the Regional Center was opened as the Training Director and then the Regional Director. There are currently over 60 schools in Colorado using the Core Knowledge Sequence at various levels of implementation. With the existence of the Regional Center and the National Core Knowledge Coordinator of Colorado, the Core Knowledge public, private, and charter schools in Colorado have developed a strong network. The activities and services provided by the National Coordinator impact not only the administrators, teachers, and staff members in the schools, but also the thousands of students attending those schools. It has been found that additional training and ongoing support to improve performance at experienced Core Knowledge schools through assisting teachers in gaining the intellectual tools they need to improve how and what they teach is critical. We believe this ongoing support is the key to quality enhancement and to wider spread of Core Knowledge schools. The National Core Knowledge Coordinator of Colorado offers "closer to home" technical support, Core Knowledge-related events, and many other services to promote and support the implementation of the Core Knowledge Sequence to beginning and experienced schools in Colorado.
