The city of Gilroy is implementing the periodic brownout of the Sunrise Fire Station as a cost reduction measure. The Brownout of Sunrise was identified in budget reduction efforts in November and December 2008 and is also identified in a July 2009 concession bargaining agreement with the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 2805.
