- Three score years of independence have only lead to a social and political system growing with opaqueness, aloofness and despotism. It has been made practically impossible to question a policy without fear of losing your lifetime, and eventually the adhesion of ink of the records of your questions. If democracy is indeed of, by and for the people of India, then the people of India have a right to invoke her democratic nature without becoming martyrs, revolutionaries, critics or even harbingers of change. It is self-evident that democracy is about change, because democracy is about people. When change becomes a historical event, we should light a candle for the starving body of a prodigal intellect. Indian people are growing, and if their growth is not complemented by undramatic legal revisions, they are going to be dragged back down to the status of the '40s Indians, for whom such laws were beneficial.
