Chicago critics have quickly gained a reputation as a forward-thinking group with an eye towards recognizing new talent and independent films. As a result, the group is well-respected by filmmakers and its award, the crystal-etched Chicago Flame, is coveted by recipients.
Strategically held in March two weeks before the Academy Awards, film professionals often view the prestigious Chicago Film Critics Awards as a bellwether for the Oscars.
