How to install cable tire chains:
It is important to be prepared for unsafe driving conditions during the winter months. Practice installing chains prior to driving in winter conditions to familiarize yourself with the process and to check fit.
1. Spread the chains out and make sure there are no kinks or broken links.
2. Drape the chain over the tire, tucking the ends beneath the tire.
3. Pull forward until the chain is under the tire and you have enough room to comfortably reach the chain ends.
4. Push each chain cable end into the locking mechanism and pull to tighten. Start with the back edge of the tire, and count the number of catches needed to secure the chain to the tire. When threading the cable on the front edge of the tire, stop one short of the number used on the back edge.
5. Pull on the chain loop on the front of your tire to test the tension, and if necessary, tighten further.
6. Some chain sets are sold with rubber tighteners or bungee cords that can be used to further secure the chains to the tire. If so, hook the cords to opposite ends of the chain loop. Making sure that the back edge of the tire is tighter than the front edge ensures that your chain is secure.
