Description
The husband and wife team of Peter Meder and Chris Chomick have been working together for twenty-five years. They met in 1978, while working as clerks in an art supply store in the Chicago loop and immediately began working together on various projects, one of the first being an animated puppet for Dutch Boy Paints, which began a career creating special effects for national television commercials. They later moved to Florida, where they worked in the production department of a Tampa advertising agency.
On a visit to a local newsstand, they found a magazine featuring one-of-a-kind Art Dolls and discovered a whole new world. Inspired by the concept of "dolls as art" they combined the knowledge and strengths of
their different art backgrounds to create their own unique form of figurative sculpture. Their present style developed as a result of a cartoon sketch by Chris, the disproportionate body appealed to them because of its non-traditional look. Drawn to the "strange and odd", they are always on the lookout for new and stimulating images to try out on their latest creation.
