About Government Skills
Government Skills is an employer-led organisation which has support from across the central government sector. It is of strategic importance to the UK as it includes the work of all Government Departments, Executive Agencies and Non-Departmental Public Bodies, and the Armed Forces. It is a strong, cohesive group, which shares common issues and supply chains. Government Skills brings together the entire sector for the first time, allowing the synergies that clearly exist to be realised. We will be a vigorous voice in the national training and education landscape, with a view to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of public services.
Values
One of the distinguishing features of the sector, and the basis of the sense of common purpose, is a set of shared values. These values are based on the principle that central government exists to serve, albeit at varying degrees of distance, the elected Government. The values are also based on the work that has been undertaken for over 150 years to define the way in which the sector should be structured to undertake this work. These values are often described as public service ethos and say something fundamental about the aims of Central Government employers and the people who work in the sector.
Board Members
The primary role of the Board is to supervise the strategic development of the SSC and to satisfy itself that the SSC is meeting its objectives as set down in its business plan and the SSC Licence requirements. (Click on the Board members name for full biography details)
