Description

The mission of Central District Health Department is to promote wellness in our communities through education, prevention of disease and disability, and preservation of the quality of our environment. Central District Health was established on June 16, 1971 by the Idaho State Legislature, and is one of seven independent public health districts covering all of Idaho's 44 counties.

Central District Health serves Ada, Boise, Elmore and Valley counties. Our geographic service area spans a total of 9,677 square miles, and includes frontier, rural and urban areas with a total population of more than 350,000, which is roughly one-quarter of the population of the state of Idaho. To best represent these diverse communities, Central District Health is governed by a Board of Health, which includes representation from each county. Board members are appointed to five-year terms by the County Commissioners from their area. The day-to-day management of the department is overseen by the Health Department Director.
