About Castle Country
Castle Country, in southeastern Utah, is made up of Carbon and Emery Counties. The beauty of the rugged west, recreation adventures and geologic wonders all grace this land.
The area was settled in the 1800s by Mormon pioneers. Castle Country’s history changed dramatically when coal mines opened throughout the area in the late 1870s. Immigrants from all over the world poured into Carbon and Emery Counties. The result has been an area much different from the rest of Utah. Today, Castle Country is one of the most ethnically and religiously diverse locations in the state.
The scenery in Castle Country is as diverse as its people. Lush mountain forests contrast the red rock formations. Lakes and rivers flow above desert plateaus.
