Carbon-info.org was formed in 2004 by its Chairman Flemming Bermann. Located in Hampshire, England, it is the only UK environmental organisation, which focuses exclusively on fighting global warming and climate change on a national and international level. The group is operating on the web and it a non-government, non-profit environment organisation, managed and operated by a group of dedicated individuals (management committee), who provide all their services and time at no cost to the organisation.
The group’s social objectives are to: 1) Raise public awareness about global warming and climate change. 2) Promote the many preventative options available to everyone to help combat global warming. 3) Actively campaign and lobby industry and governments to take action. 4) Influence environmental policy decisions.
The group has particular expertise in a number of global warming related areas such as: 1) Food Miles and their impact 2) Calculation carbon footprint 3) Independent Carbon offset verification 4) 'Green' marketing and promotion for small ethical businesses
The group has been very active and has achieved success in a number of areas. Carbon-info.org was the first UK organisation to launch a Food Miles Calculator, which calculated the environmental impact of transporting food to the UK from other parts of the world. In 2007, the group launched the UK's first National day of Climate Action, April 14th. The event was a success as many individuals and organisations across the South of England planned events and launched new 'green' products and services.
