Camp Marymount, Fairview, TN

Description

Camp Marymount, Inc. is a Catholic Residential camp that provides a traditional summer camp experience, and facilities for retreats and educational programming. It is the only Catholic Residential camp in the state of Tennessee and the only Catholic Camp accredited by the American Camping Association within the entire Southeast, including the bordering states of Arkansas, Kentucky, and Virginia. Camp Marymount was purchased by Monsignor George Rohling in the winter of 1945 after knowing that the present facility, Camp Happy Hollow, had become too small to accommodate all the campers that wanted to participate. Monsignor used his personal money for the purchase of 147 acres from a man named Mr. Lever and then requested reimbursement from the Diocese. Luckily for Monsignor, the Diocese later approved his purchase and the camp was named in honor of the Blessed Virgin and called Camp Marymount.

Camp Marymount saw its first campers the summer of 1946 with the facilities consisting of a small lodge, infirmary, 9 cabins and an outdoor Chapel. In 1948, Sr. Camp was added and was geared toward the needs of older girls and boys. 1951 brought the building and dedication of St. Anthony’s Chapel. In 1959 Marymount had 138 campers and 22 counselors. In 1967, 2 more cabins were added in Jr. Camp which brought the number up to 10 and Sr. Camp was up to 5 cabins.

Today Camp Marymount is accredited by the American Camping Association and has 340 acres. Marymount provides programming to over 600 campers throughout the summer, using traditional camp activities like horsemanship, nature, arts and crafts, gardening, archery, swimming and more! We strive to build character, community and life long friendships over the 2 and 3 week sessions. We do this in a caring, simple, rustic environment that radiates the presence of God and nature. Our camper population comes from 18 different states, Mexico, and Canada and the return rate for campers range from 55% to 80%, many being 3rd generation campers. Our pricing for this experience has been consistently in the bottom 1/3rd of similar camps. We maintain a low fee structure and a strong scholarship program to ensure that all children have the opportunity to come to Marymount.
