Title

CAADV - California Alliance Against Domestic Violence

Description

The Mission of the California Alliance Against Domestic Violence (CAADV) is to eliminate domestic violence and all forms of violence against women and their children and girls by promoting social change through leadership and advocacy in partnership with their communities.

HOME

CAADV believes that violence against women constitutes a violation of human rights. Such violence, which exists in all socioeconomic classes, races, religious, and cultural groups, is often condoned, maintained and promoted due to the status of women in society. All women are at risk for emotional, verbal and physical abuse in their intimate relationships because of power and control issues. We also recognize that violence by men against women is based on learned behavior that can be changed. In addition, domestic violence significantly affects children in the home. Thus, helping battered women benefits their children and may interrupt the generational cycle of violence.

The California Alliance Against Domestic Violence (CAADV) is a 501[c][3] corporation and a coalition representing close to one hundred organizations responding to the needs and interests of battered women and their children in California. As the sole statewide voice for victims of family violence, CAADV has worked since 1978 with policy makers, advocacy organizations, civil and criminal justice professionals, child protective service workers, law enforcement officials and others, to develop specific proposals to aid the victims of domestic violence. This collaboration marks the first attempt in California at a comprehensive approach to this devastating problem.
