Description

Gayle Janzen received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1980 from The University of Alabama. She completed her Clinical Internship at the UAB Medical School where she began her interest and training in treating eating disorders. After working with teenagers and families at The Children’s Hospital, she opened her private practice associated with Brookwood Medical Center, where she was Staff Psychologist on the Adolescent Unit for several years. Dr Janzen now maintains an office practice with teenagers and their parents, and with adults of all ages, both as individuals and couples.

Dr. Janzen specializes in treating eating disorders, adult survivors of sexual abuse, marital and relationship problems, and women’s issues – such as juggling career and family demands, divorce adjustment, “empty-nest” syndrome, menopause and aging. She enjoys helping couples listen to and understand each other better, and helping teenagers cope with their parents and vice-versa. Over the past 20 years she has treated a great number of people with depression and anxiety disorders, such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Panic Disorder.

Dr. Janzen is trained as a Family Mediator and has been accepted to the State Roster of Domestic Mediators for Alabama. Family Mediation provides a less stressful and usually less expensive means of settling divorce and custody disputes than going to court. An initial telephone consultation may help to assess whether this is an appropriate option for a couple going through divorce.
