Who we are

The Communications Workers of America (CWA) is a young union. It was founded in New Orleans in 1938. CWA Local 9413 was chartered on January 29, 1951. CWA is the largest telecommunications union in the world, representing nearly 700,000 workers in public and private sector employment.

CWA Local 9413 members are employed in the telecommunications industry, printing and news media, state government. Our local union represents workers who employed by government contractors under HUD and the US Department of Labor. We are a diverse union that represents workers throughout the state of Nevada as well as members in the Truckee/Lake Tahoe area of California.

In 1989 the Washoe Typographical Union Local 65 merged with CWA Local 9413. The Typographical Union is the oldest union in the state of Nevada, and was chartered in 1876. Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) belonged to this local when he was a writer for the "Territorial Enterprise" during the Comstock days in Virginia City, Nevada.
