- BSDS is run by Steve Byatt, a designer of discrete silicon power devices with many years of experience. Early designs included small NPN and PNP epitaxial planar transistors such as the 2N2907 and 2N2222. Other transistor designs used gold doping for fast switching applications like computer core drivers. Besides device design, Steve was actively involved with developing the technology required to manufacture these transistors. The low concentration phosphorous deposition required on PNP transistors was notoriously difficult to achieve before ion implantation. A very uniform process was developed that heavily doped the base region and then realised the required doping level by a low temperature steam oxidation.
