Basildon Womens Refuge
Description
BWR offers temporary accommodation for women of all ages, races and cultures, with or without children. Our trained staff, as well as offering support and advice on welfare, housing, schooling, legal and women's rights, encourage women to regain a sense of worth.
The refuge is a communal home with shared facilities, we also have five two bedroom flats that are near to the main refuge. The residents can give support to, and receive support from, each other helping to ease the feelings of loneliness and lack of confidence. We have opened a Drop-In day centre in the Basildon area. There is also a Drop-In already set up in the Canvey area. Have a look at our Service/Help page for more information.
We also offer a telephone counselling service for those women who, despite suffering domestic abuse, do not wish to leave home. Our residents pay an accommodation fee which is usually covered by housing benefit. The remainder of our funding comes from public funding and charitable donations.
