About J.R. Burrows & Company and Burrows Studio
Burrows Studio encompasses the collection of Arts & Crafts Movement designs offered by J.R. Burrows & Company. Styled under the direction of John Burrows, the designs are representative of the Aesthetic Movement and the first generation of the Anglo-American Arts & Crafts Movement. These designs are appropriate for artistic homes from the late 19th and early 20th century. Our pattern designs, drawn from nature and following the principals of moral design of the Arts & Crafts Movement, represent the finest aspects of simplicity and refinement in line and coloring. Four of our fabric patterns and two wallpapers were designed by Candace Wheeler, foremost American textile designer of the first generation Arts & Crafts Movement. Burrows & Company has licensed with the Mark Twain Memorial in Hartford, Connecticut, to reproduce a series of Candace Wheeler designs from their collection. These silk screen printed fabrics reproduce the high quality of design and printing that Candace Wheeler offered her clients 100 years ago.
Two new designs in 1995 for wallpaper and fabric are by C.F.A. Voysey, a noteworthy English architect and designer from the turn of the century.
