Description
The Burgess Surname DNA Project is currently seeking "direct in-line male" Burgess volunteers to participate in this project. Hosted by Professor Michael Burgess and sponsored through Family Tree DNA - Genealogy by Genetics, LTD. This project hopes to link all the branches of the greater Burgess families in the United States as well as related Burgess families in Great Britain.
The Burgess Surname DNA Project is seeking to collect Y-chromosome DNA data for all direct-line male descendants of individuals named Burges and Burgess, particularly those who have already established their ancestries through civil records back more than a hundred years. The Project will attempt to solidify relationships between the branches Burgess families, and to identify genetic markers for each of the major Burgess family lines in the United States and abroad.
Since the Burgess Surname DNA Project, in essence, traces the direct (inline) Burgess male Y-chromosome DNA, females (a) don't carry their father's Y-DNA, and (b) acquire a new surname by the way of marriage, in order to be relevant to this project. The tested individual must be a male that wants to check his paternal line (father's father's father's...).
