Owner and Designer for Buggy Bag® Mobility Accessories, Leslie Cairns has recently developed her latest product for wheelchair users. The Buggy Bag® Lap Blanket is wind and waterproof, fleece-lined, attachable to the chair –a perfectly functional garment for the Lower Mainland’s unpredictable weather. The large zippered pocket provides a convenient and reliable place to store your wallet, keys and cell phones, and reflective stripes makes traveling with this lap blanket safer on dark and dreary days.
Cairns, a long-time resident of Burnaby, had her beginnings in the Film Industry as a Costume Pattern Maker. After her daughter was born, Cairns could not find a stroller blanket that met her stringent standards, thus, she built one herself. From there, Buggy Bag® was born, and it was not long before she was approached to design a similar product for wheel chair users.
Cairns takes on the approach of “one customer at a time” and often builds to suit, or changes her designs as per customer’s individual needs. She is a one-woman show, and looks after all the aspects of her business. This dedication of providing participatory design and closely over seeing production means that customers not only get a quality product, but they also receive customer service of a time gone by. Cairns is in the midst of developing a line of wheelchair ponchos and scooter aprons. Buggy Bag® expects to launch these products later in the year.
