Title

The Brown College Democrats — The Brown Democrats

Description

You can have a huge role in helping accomplish anything that the College Democrats are already planning or you can take initiative on a project or event of your own creation. Talk to an eboard member, go to committee meetings, come to our weekly Wednesday general body meeting or email us. We are only as strong as our members are active. See the calendar to check for the next meeting time.

The purpose of the College Democrats is to create opportunities for learning about and advocation Democratic policies and activities. The College Democrats provide a forum within Brown University campus for the discussion and advancement of Democratic policies and candidates who represent Democratic values in Rhode Island and around the Country.

Last year during the election season the chapter ran 14 swing state trips in 8 weeks, helping hundreds of Brown students log thousands of cumulative hours for the Kerry Edwards Campaign. The Brown Dems were also active at home during the election, volunteering in local races across Rhode Island and helping over a thousand students register to vote and navigate the absentee voting process. After the election the Brown Democrats lobbied regularly at the State House for progressive legislation and welcomed five hundred students from over forty schools at the 2005 Northeast College Democrats Conference. Throughout the year the Brown Democrats published a progressive student newspaper, ran one of the most successful College Democrats blogs in the country and maintained an active devotion to community service in the Providence community.
