Description

About the North British Trust Group

The history of the company dates back to 1902 when it was launched as the Cheshire Public House Trust Company by Albert Henry George, fourth Earl Grey. One of his interests was the service and hospitality offered by the average British inn and he set out to improve these standards. Earl Grey started his campaign by bringing together representatives from every county and put forward the idea that each should found a Public House Trust.

British Trust Hotels was one of the first to be set up, with shares being purchased by nine local businessmen, who decided that half the shares should be owned by a charitable trust to ensure that the original aims of the company were maintained and that the dividend attributed to those shares is distributed to charity. This is still the case today.

In 2003, the company returned to its founding name of as North British Trust Group, and expanded to encompass 2 distinct hotel companies, British Trust Hotels and Crerar Hotels.
