Bridget Prentice
Description
I was born Bridget Corr on 28th December 1952, the daughter of James Corr, a joiner, and Bridget Corr, a clerical worker.
I attended Our Lady and St Francis School, Glasgow, then later the University of Glasgow (MA English Literature and Modern History); University of London (Postgraduate Certification in Education); and South Bank University (LLB).
I started my career as the Rector's Assessor at Glasgow University (1972-3); became a teacher at London Oratory School (1974-86), and became Head of Careers (1984-86). I left the Oratory for John Archer School, where I was Head of Careers between 1986-88. I contested Croydon Central in 1987, and became the Member of Parliament for Lewisham East on 9th April 1992, overturning a Tory majority of 4,846 to a Labour majority of 1,095. This was increased to 12,127 in the 1997 General Election and 9,003 in the General Election of 2001.
