- In 1917, in New Haven, Connecticut, Robert's grandparents opened their first business in their new country. It was a retail store selling wrapping paper, not the fancy kind but the kind you see in the "old" movies where the grocers wraps the meat in brown paper. Until the 1920's that was the extent of paper goods being manufactured. As products were developed, such as paper straws, paper napkins, paper cups, waxpaper, matches and paper bags, their retail store added them to their inventory.
