REVOLUTIONS WOODTURNING
My name is David Peebles. I live near Lyons, a small town in northwest Ohio. I've been involved in a number of artistic enterprises over the years...started out drumming in a rock band, went from there to chimney sweeping and pottery, moved on to furniture making and eventually Shaker chair making. A year or so ago I decided to pare down my life and eliminate some of the excess. I now work in a small studio that I've basically built and designed myself. It's very compact, but has its charms. I have horses as neighbors, trees all around, rabbits and chipmunks as constant companions, and the quiet scenes outside my windows as I'm turning are very beneficial to my peace of mind.
I've been turning since about 1994. All the equipment I now own is directly related to woodturning. I currently am concentrating on making bowls and hollow vessels. The main focus of my work is always the wood and shaping it in a way that will bring out its natural beauty. The majority of my work is done using green wood, turned thin, allowing for the subtle changes that will occur as it dries. Each piece of wood is different and the results are always a revelation. It's a very addictive art form!
