Title

Borderline Personality Disorder Research Foundation

Description

Founded in 1999, BPDRF has mobilized research centers in the US and Europe to investigate whether BPD is a recognizably distinct entity and, if so, what the defining characteristics of the disorder are. Under the guidance of Nobel Laureates Torsten Wiesel and Eric Kandel, who were the Foundation’s first trustees, research goals were established.

In the first phase from 2001-2003, four centers were selected to investigate BPD from different scientific and clinical perspectives. The members of the Scientific Advisory Board published a framework for future research in Biological Psychiatry on June 15th, 2002. The second phase started in 2003 under the leadership of Nobel Laureate Paul Greengard. Grants were awarded to 22 investigators. The main research objective for 2003–2005 is to establish clearly the core defining characteristics of BPD.
