Blue Hotel's sound is a mix of original and cover material, from Classic Rock, blues, funk, jazz to contemporary gospel.

Where did we get our name “Blue Hotel”? That's our little secret. How did we get our start? Read below.

Blue Hotel members, Eric Mundy and Paul Babcock, have been friends for a number of years. They played together in Canadian band, Pilgrim (Babcock for 7 years and Mundy 4), and after it disbanded they spent the next 4 months trying to relax but itching to get back on the stage.

Both Mundy and Babcock, coming from musical families, have been playing since childhood.

Eric started piano at age 10 and at 14 got interested in the guitar. Eric credits his mother with ingraining the sound of music in him from a very early age as she was a very accomplished piano player.

Paul got his first drum set at age 5. He would always be around music as a child. His father played fiddle. Paul's brother played keyboard and guitar while his sister played the accordian. Paul studied piano at age 7, but soon returned to the drum kit.

Both Eric and Paul played well together and knew the longer they sat idle the longer they were wasting time...time they could be performing. A decision was soon made to start looking for musicians. Musicians for a new band...Blue Hotel.

Babcock had met bass player, Paul Tymciw, a few years earlier through sound engineer, Don Larson. Babcock and Tymciw had never really kept in touch, but would see each other from time to time. Tymciw's name was mentioned to Babcock again and Babcock was given a contact number to reach him. Paul Tymciw sat in with Mundy and Babcock for a jam session; it was a real good fit.

Blue Hotel lead singer, Kathryn Vilela, was brought to audition by Mundy. They knew twenty minutes into it they had found the person they were looking for. With a voice that's powerful, passionate, endlessly expressive, and full of contagious energy, Vilela is just that type of artist--one who will undoubtedly surprise and captivate those who listen. Kathryn also writes and plays keyboard.

Kimberley Courtney has been on the stage since childhood. She has performed in a number of professional bands and worked as a session singer. Kimberley is the newest member of Blue Hotel, joining the band in the summer of 2006. She brings to the stage some amazing background vocal harmonies as well as lead work. The band is very happy to have her come on board. Kimberley also plays guitar and writes.

Blue Hotel will remind you why you sing along to the car radio and slap drum beats on the steering wheel. The band appeals to a wide audience because of the variety of their repertoire.

“People always ask me where the best music scene is,” declares Blue Hotel's drummer, Paul Babcock. “And I always say, ‘Wherever you make it.’ Scenes don't just happen; they are created by the people doing their thing.”

That is the essence of Blue Hotel. People doing their thing...with passion.
