Title

Blue Hill church of Christ []

Description

This great congregation was planted in a house in Dorchester in 1956 under the leadership of Brother John Davis, Sr. Within a short time, the small group purchased a building at 179 Glenway Avenue in Dorchester. Under the leadership of Bro. Davis, the congregation grew and became a vital organization and contributor to the betterment of the Dorchester community. Bro. John Davis, Sr. remained their spiritual leader until his health failed. Thanks to Brother James Anderson, Thomas Arnold, and a few faithful brethren, the congregation was able to continue to serve the community until a full-time evangelist was located.

In 1991, Brother Herschel Walker was installed as the full-time evangelist and minister. Under the leadership of Bro. Herschel Walker, the congregation ordained two elders: John Spriggs and Herschel Walker, and three deacons: Gregory Burton, Jesse Hines, and Leonce Rosiclair. In the mid 90s, due to growth and limited classroom space, the leadership found it necessary to begin looking for a larger building with a more visible location. In 1999, God blessed the leadership to find and secure a suitable building at 1505 Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan, MA. This building would later become the new home for the Dorchester church of Christ. In the year 2000, Dorchester's name was changed to the Blue Hill church of Christ to reflect the new location of the building. In 2001, the congregation celebrated their 10th year with Bro. Herschel Walker as minister of the church of Christ located at 1505 Blue Hill Avenue.

Presently the church has many programs that provide service to the community and an opportunity to learn more about the Lord's body, the church of Christ. In 2001, the congregation, through their mission work, provided pews for the Niagara Falls church of Christ and in 2002 assisted in the purchase of their new church building. The congregation's medical staff and evangelism team of thirteen went on a crusade to Jamaica, providing medical service and teaching bible classes for a week. Every quarter, the women's group provides health workshops to the community. The congregation also supports a growing youth program and music ministry that provides a vital service to the community, congregation, and Northeast region through a cappela music.
