I am a police officer with the Valparaiso Police Department with over 11 years of experience, and am currently serving as Public Information Officer. Over the years I have helped organize and have attended many fingerprint sessions for various organizations throughout the city.
While fingerprinting these children I have always felt that more information, in regard to protection from child predators, should be provided to parents. While talking with parents at these events, I was surprised to learn that most of them were unaware of precautions they could be taking to make their children safer. These include such things as: how to teach their child to get away from an abductor, how to search the internet for convicted child sex offenders in their neighborhoods, suspicious activities that occur in their neighborhood that should be reported to police and general safety tips that can be taught to their children.
After discussing this topic with my wife, and researching the topic more extensively, we concluded that there is a great need for a complete child protection kit designed with a law enforcement officer's background and experience. We have since started a business and designed this kit, Blue Guard Child Protection Kit in the hopes it can help parents protect their children.
