Black-History.org.uk celebrates black history in Brighton and Hove, UK

Title

Home Page of Brighton and Hove Black History

Description

One member of our group, Bert Williams, has spent a great deal of time researching Brighton and Hove’s local Black history. Following our launch in October 2002, we will be adding to the material collected by Bert through a series of outreach workshops in the local community over the next 6 months. We will be using video, creative writing, audio interviews and photos to gather people’s input and we will work with a wide cross section of the local community (both white and black).

Show how everyone (both black and white) can learn from each other and become more aware of Brighton and Hove’s cultural heritage

The Brighton and Hove Black History Project employs the same definition of Black as is used by MOSAIC: ‘Black people’ and ‘mixed-parentage people’ includes all those people whose ancestral origins are African, Asian, Caribbean, Chinese, Middle Eastern, North African, Romany, the indigenous peoples of the South Pacific islands, the American continents, Australia and New Zealand.
