Description

BISA provides supportive services (hands-on-approach) for at least 40 students annually over the entire two or four years of undergraduate study. Services include: financial awards of at least $1,000 annually, books, transportation, tutoring, mentoring, counseling (parents and students), networking among distinguished black women, monthly contacts by a BISA member, on-site visits, and calendars and books of distinguished black women. Each student is provided BISA's 800 number for easy access to the organization.

The need for educational assistance for our black youth is monumental. BISA believes that scholarship support for young people will afford them the opportunity to make a difference in the educational, economical, political, and social well-being of black people. BISA is determined and committed to helping make the difference. BISA is unswerving in its commitment.

Alice Walker, one of BISA's distinguished women, writes In The Search of Our Mother's Garden: And I thought of the mountain of work black women must do ... we must work as if we are the last generation capable of work. BISA, its students, distinguished women, and loyal supporters are aware of the mountain of work they must do. And we are doing it!
