Birding in Las Villuercas Ibores Jara Geopark Extremadura offers some superb bird-watching opportunities. There is no other place with a landscape variety as Villuercas Ibores Jara, where in a relatively small area you find different ecosystems ranging from landscapes with Atlantic forests on the slopes of mountains to mountain streams and Mediterranean ecosystems more typical of this latitude. This variety of ecosystems has created a botanical and fauna diversity that is among the most important in Spain. Because of the very low population density of not even 6 inhabitants per km² the region has remained a natural paradise, ready to be discovered by lovers of nature in its purest form, where you can enjoy observing a huge variety of species. But it doesn't stop there, throughout the area there are other interesting aspects of nature that can be added to your bird observation. You may expect to see many red deer in the East of the area, South of Navatrasierra, in the mountains of Hospital del Obispo (CC-20). In the whole Comarca you may very well see wild boars, foxes, badgers, Egyptian mongooses, genets and martens. In the watery parts live otters, turtles, newts, salamanders and a variety of dragonflies and butterflies. Add to this the large number of orchids and other herbs with beautiful flowers such as peony, bastard balm, daffodil, hyacinth and gladiolus that can be found, and you have a wealth of nature to observe.
