Dr. Marco Salemi , is an expert in the field of phylogenetic methods and molecular evolution of viruses. He has published nearly 40 manuscripts in major scientific journals, many directly related to the molecular evolution of HIV, and recently co-authored a book, The Phylogenetic Handbook: a Practical Approach to DNA and protein phylogeny, which provides theoretical backgrounds and practical approaches to understanding phylogenetic analysis and analysis packages. Dr. Tulio Oliveira works primarily at University of Oxford, U.K. He is an expert in viral molecular and evolutionary analysis. Additionally, he is involved in the creation of many databases and websites (BioAfrica, the GDE Environment for Linux, the REGA subtyping tool), and skilled at networking and computer programming.
Susanna L. Lamers is the innovator behind the program HIVbase® and the PI on three SBIR grants dealing with the development of HIV-specific database software (Lamers et. al, Bioinformatics, 2004). She has processed and analyzed HIV sequences for nearly 15 years. HIVbase contains familiar, easy-to-use interfaces and functionality for integrating many types of disparate data. The software contains tools that allows for the mass import of raw genetic data, eliminates the time needed for repetitious sequence translation of known HIV viral proteins, has the ability to automatically identify and store HIV regions of interest from nucleic acid or protein sequences, provides for the export of data in commonly used analysis-ready formats, and for unique querying approaches.
